New items added to the shop!

  • 6-22-birsnest

Not a week goes by I don't see new things I like and want to use for my aquarium, and whenever that happens the next step is adding it to my shop for customers to use as well. I just got in a new order from Two Little Fishies today, which included Magnesium Pronto and AccuraSea.  These two items will be very useful: The first one is a Magnesium Supplement that is mixed up at the proper ratio, the second item is to calibrate your refractometer to 35ppt the way you are supposed to do it. Here are the links...

This month's club meeting included a visit from Dave Botwin who did a really nice presentation about how to use inexpensive parts to make your Apex controller more handy. I had to pick him up from the airport and after he was done gazing at my tank, we talked about what kinds of things I'd like my Apex to do that it doesn't do already. The first hurdle was overcoming my trust issues regarding the return pump.  I've always had that plugged directly into the a wall outlet so nothing could disable it other than a full-blown power outage.  No GFCI outlets, just keep it powered at all costs.

Shipping - Costly, unfortunately

  • shipping-sump-hdr

I get emails quite often asking if I can build a sump for them, and if I can ship it. Yes, I can and have for some time now. However, I've finally gotten to the point that I just have to review and update the shipping part of the equation. For a long time, I boxed up sumps for free, only charging what it cost in materials plus what FedEx charges.

So here is a little more information about Algone. It is some type of mystery product that will clear aquarium water if it is cloudy for some reason. That is how it is advertised, but I don't know if that is actually the case. I bought it solely to lower nitrates, as a LFS told me he's been using it on his heavy-feeders (tanks he services) and had great results. Now since I don't actually know my true nitrate readings, this may be an effort in futility, but I'll get another test kit in the near future to make a further comparison to my current nitrate kit.
