A July update

In an effort to get rid of my Aiptasia, I've tried a number of methods, including kalkwasser paste injections, Joe's Juice, and adding nine Peppermint Shrimp to my 55g. What I'm seeing is more and more of these glass anemones. Yesterday while at the LFS, I saw a baby Copperband Butterfly fish, and wanted to buy it on the spot. However, they advised me not to put it in my reef, and I left empty-handed.

I knew that others have had this fish with success, so I asked my club members what they thought, and they confirmed what I pretty much knew. So I went back today, and it was sold! :( There was one more in stock, but it was larger. After they showed me that it ate frozen food, I told them to bag it up. It has been there for 30 days, and looks great. See?

I put it in my son's 29g for now, to clean out his aptasia first. Once that tank is cleared out, then I'll put it in my 55g tank.

This is a shot of a nice Zoanthid polyp. For some reason, about once a month this colony closes up like it wants to die. What happens is the top of each polyp closes up, with a look as if it is being strangled. You can see a circle or collar near the tip of the polyp. What I do is take a small turkey baster and suck the tip of the polyp over and over until the small "cap" comes off. This cap seems to act like a seal, and if left alone, the polyp dies. I've had to do this about once a month with a number of polyps, but for some reason it works.

Last week I picked up this nice Acropora tenuis and put it in my 55g. I had to take that picture from above, because the corals block the view of it from the front of the tank.

Finally, my Suncoral was so pretty tonight.

My 29g page was updated tonight. I tried to clean up the appearance somewhat. What it really needs is a complete re-coding of the page, but at the same time it contains the history of my first tank. I'll be adding some new pictures to it as there are a few new reeflings that need to be included.

I discovered that the new shortcut menu that I added to many pages on my site contained the wrong "links" page, so those have been corrected and now point to the Hidden Treasure page. Also, you may notice that my Blog page now looks different. It is just a simple update from the previous one, and may be easier to read.
