Sumps: Required Information

Reef Shop > Sumps

I can build you a custom sump, and my site contains several variations to choose from. Sumps are built and shipped within four weeks of payment, unless my schedule gets overloaded.

Shipping is very expensive, and here's why. Sumps are shipped FedEx Ground with insurance, and the limiting factor is total box size (length of box + girth not exceeding 165") and a maximum shipped weight of 70lbs. I'm often asked if I can ship a large sump. Unfortunately, not at this time. Sumps that are 60-gallon and smaller are fine. Larger ones will require that you make other arrangments to pick it up.

To order a sump, I need to know:

  • What actually fits into your stand - Create a cardboard or foam template and do a test run to find out what will navigate into the stand.
  • What return pump you will use, internal or external? If external, what size bulkhead will you need? (I will drill the hole for it)
  • What skimmer will you use, what size is its footprint with its pump(s)?
  • What configuration you prefer?

Based upon that information, I'll pm you the price. Sumps range in price from $300 and up. Most sumps are built with 1/4" clear AcryLite FF acrylic, and include the bubble tower, bubble trap, probe holder, and float switch holder. Larger sumps can be picked up in person, and may require that they be built with thicker material, driving up the cost.

I do my best to build a good quality sump. When it leaves my door, it will be in good condition but I can't ensure any possible thing that might occur one day. I'm going to include a disclaimer that if a leak does occur some day, I can not be held accountable. I'll be happy to help resolve the problem if possible, but I'm not going to be able to replace the hardwood flooring in your home.
