Internal Overflows

Reef Shop > Overflows

I build internal overflow boxes by request.

To order one or more, I need to know:

  • Where will the overflow go? Left corner, right corner, middle of the back wall, or is it a center overflow?
  • Is it two-sided or three sided? Or even four sided? How wide do you want the front panel? How wide is the side panel? Be sure to allow for the bulkheads.
  • How tall do you want it to be? I need to know what will fit between the bottom of the tank and the top trim.
  • Do you want it to be a 'floating' overflow box, which will be affixed to the back of your tank near the top?

I build overflows out of black acrylic, and the teeth are 1/4" wide on 3/4" centers. Usually, the teeth are 1" deep.

When planning your overflow, look closely at your trim to determine teeth depth. Most reefkeepers do not want to see the water line, so the teeth should not be lower the the outer trim of the tank.

Overflows should be siliconed to the tank with 'aquarium-safe' silicone, available at your local fish store or Home Depot/Lowes. Average price is $7 for a large toothpaste-sized tube. Allow to cure for 24 hours before adding water.
