MACNA XVII - Corals and livestock

This hobby is nothing if it wasn't for the livestock. So here are some things I saw and thought you might enjoy...

Acanthastrea - above and below.

A "bandit" acropora crab took up residence in this smooth skinned Acropora sp.

A lot of current and plenty of microbubbles cluttered up the water for some of these images.

Another bandit.

Peach colored encrusting Montipora

Montipora foliosa, I think.

This arrow crab wiggled one of his legs at the lens, possibly in a defensive posture.

Doesn't he look like a character out of a Disney movie?

Dendrophyllia.

Phosphate-proof corals - these are great for beginners. They can't be killed! ;)

This is the ORA tank, filled with frags, clams and tank-raised fish. The tank was an overflowing tank, where water runs over all four walls and collects in the trough around the perimeter. From there, it drained into the sump.

What interested me quite a bit was the LR formation. It is all one piece, with sand in the valleys. I heard the sand was glued in place. You can see more images of it on the Cool Stuff page.

Gargonian.

Pavona.

Another pavona.

Reed Mariculture live copepods, above and below.

Ricordia.

No idea. Someone told me to take a picture of this frag, on the edge of some encrusting Montipora.

Here is a close up of what is probably an Echinophyllia aspera.

A larger shot of the entire piece.

This was another interesting display, in the Kent Marine/ Oceanic booth.

Yellow Gargonian.
