MACNA XVII - Treasure!

While attending the conference, you do receive some products for free or at least at a special MACNA price. I came home with quite a bit of new stuff.

Last year, I brought home my coral frags in a styrofoam cooler that was checked as luggage. Since a few others I knew did the same and had their livestock killed (burst bags), I thought perhaps a bucket would be a wiser choice. I only had 9 frags to bring home, and the buckets were empty at the show. Seachem gave me one, and I lined it with foam, and padded it with newspaper.

Once I got to the airport, security took it all apart, sniffed and studied everything carefully and allowed me and my future reeflings to pass.

Live stock traveled safely on the plane up in the front where odd-shaped carry-on stuff needed storing.

These lids unscrew. All you do is hit it with a hammer on a specific spot to release it from its locked position. Of course I missed and hit my own shin!!

The packing material was still dry.

The livestock still safely in their individual bags.

All were floated in the sump under my reef to match temperature. Below you can see them individually.

Purple tipped acropora.

A very hairy and happy A. millepora.

A green montipora foliosa with a purple rim.

Another acropora.

This is a dendrophyllia. These are popular for nano tanks, and will go in my Pico tank with Casper. They are similar in appearance to suncorals (Tubastrea), but each polyp is about three times as large.

Another acropora.

Bright pink Solomon Island Pocillopora damicornis.

I believe this is a A. milleopora as well, with blue tips.

I forget.

All my goodies. The bucket is what you saw above full of coral frags.

A new container of ARM for my Calcium Reactor. The reactor holds almost all of that contianer. The yellow stuff is something new by CaribSea to take out nitrates, and I'm going to test it out.

Chemipure is by Boyd Enterprises, and they sent along a new food for me to try out in my tank.

Some fake plant from Marineland. I may use some of it one day for seahorses to hitch to.

This tiny 7.5w heater by Hydor will go in the Pico (2 gallon) tank. The heater is thin like a credit card. It can be submerged under the substrate.

This larger Hydor 300w heater is fully submersible, and I'll be using it in my 280g reef. It'll be used in the sump.

This is the new MASNA calendar, that was printed just in time for its release at MACNA. All images were submitted by MASNA members. Our club purchased 20 for the DFWMAS members.

This microjet pump was purchased as a backup for the current Sen pump in the Pico tank.

A new ORP probe, which my Aqua Controller II needed desparately. Now that I have it, I can start running Ozone in my tank. Neptune Systems had a booth set up, so I was able to talk with Curt about my tank's needs at the same time.

New - the ROWAphos sponge. They come in square or round shapes. I'm going to put one in Casper's tank in the HOB filter to pull out phosphates.

Seachem gave me a bag of salt. It makes 50g of saltwater. If punctured, it makes a mess in your luggage.

A Sequence Dart pump. Premium Aquatics sold these for $175 out the door, and I wanted to have a backup for the current pump my tank is using. The fittings are included, and this pump has the saltwater seals already installed. I've been wanting this particular pump because it uses 160w of power and can move as much as 3000gph.

Tropic Marin gave me some essential elements to try out. As you can see, the one on the left is for green corals, and the one on the right is for red featherdusters. hehehe

I needed a new bottle of Lugol's Solution, and was given a bottle of Aiptasia killer as well.

Each year, some vendors provide some t-shirts. I'm always happy to receive these. :)

Premium Aquatics gave me two - one for this year and one for last year. ;)

Hellolights.com had a great shirt. See below...

This shirt, featuring Drs Foster & Smith on the breast and LiveAquaria on the sleeve had this on the back:

And Seachem also provided me with these nice shirts. Now I can throw out my older shirts. :)
