MACNA XV - The Year of the Seahorse

in my humble opinion, of course

These images were taken from a number of tanks at this year's show.

Dwarf Seahorses, less than .5" in length.

Note that is NOT a 2-liter bottle in the background, but rather at 20oz bottle.

This seahorse is securing itself to a seasquirt.

One day old babies.

They were displayed in a Marineland Betta Bowl with a single LED light.

Perfect candidates for such a tiny 'aquarium'.

I love this shot!

Please tell me the name of this coral, because I scored a frag of it. It was referred to as Bird's Nest,
but Anthony Calfo called it something specific that I think started with a "v". No, not valonia! (grin)

A nice cluster of horses, seemingly getting along.

Later on, I observed one seahorse wrap its tail around the head of another, and seemingly force it down.
I didn't photograph that as I was enjoying the visual.

I was chasing this guy across the tank as he pursued his dinner. Almost focused. (sigh)

Camera hog!

Brine shrimp on the run.....

You can see quite a bit of brine shrimp near the substrate, where the seahorses gulped them down greedily.

This was another food source for the seahorses, but it was too large for those in this tank.

These next four images, including above, were from the slide presentation by Denise & Larry Tackett.
They've spent years underwater taking fantastics shots of various sea creatures,
which can be viewed in their books as well as a 2004 "Reef Life"calendar.

A close up of the two that were tucked away in the coral (picture) above.

These were 1/4" tall!!

That's all, y'all. :)
